When considering how to become an early bird, you have to realise that you shouldn’t just set your alarm for a really early hour of the morning and expect to wake up. Instead what you should do is pace yourself. Wake up 15 to 30 mins earlier and break this further down twice a week, until you reach your ideal wake up time. This prevents your body from being shocked by any drastic change to your wake up time, which can often leave you feeling dazed and confused as opposed to revitalised and rejuvenated.
That being the case, it is very important to make sure that you fall asleep faster at night, and set yourself up with an earlier bedtime. If you are used to staying up late watching TV or surfing the internet, then you must break these habits and make it a habit to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Once you make the transition, don’t cheat and stay up one night of the week expecting you to wake up early the next day. Staying up late will lead you to sleep in late, at which point you will have to start all over again in training your body to wake up early. If you are anything like me, then chances are that you are accustomed to hitting the snooze button as soon as the alarm rings to get some extra rest. Before you know it, it has been two hours and someone is banging on your door because you are late. In order to avoid this altogether, place the alarm at a distance from the bed, that way you have to roll out of bed to turn off the alarm; and now that you have rolled out of bed, make sure not to get back into bed and snuggle in. Stay awake and make the most of the day ahead.
In order to prevent you from snuggling back into bed after you turn off the alarm, it is advisable to simply leave the bedroom as soon as you wake up in the morning, or start with the morning exercise immediately.
